Yule

The season is bright..

yet the season is dark.

Which is true? Can we hold both at once?

Nature tells us it is time to descend into ourselves. Into the dark.

It is the time of quiet, the shadow.. the dark, the slow, the depth.

It is the time of introspection.

Of dialing back to a pace of ..nearly nothingness. Of Earth pace.

Silent and still.

We can see it all around in the natural world, and it’s purpose is integral to our growth and becoming, later. Later..

Instead, we are often swept by the culture call of dizzying consumption, action, and plea’s of attention.

Oh, the attention..

Scattered wide across a multitude of projects, gatherings, screens, to-do lists.

Who will pick up the wrapping paper?

Who will bake the cookies?

Did I get enough, spend enough, give enough?

Nevermind all the dizzy parts. You have given enough. You give, enough, my dear..

And, I invite you to question,

Who, this season, will sit around the quiet flicker of a fire in quiet solitude?

Who will hear the soft crackle of the blanket of snow over the pines?

Who will hear the stories of the elder? The stories of simpler times?

Who will stir their tea, on a cold winter morning, bundled in blanket in the crisp air , watching the sun greet us for another day?

May it be you. May it be you.

So instead,

May your mind be still, this holy season.

May your hands be warm, and your heart warmer.

May you find your depth, your own elder story, your own sanctuary.

Yule blessings

May you be bright and May you be dark.
